Todas las actividades deportivas y académicas se desarrollan a través de la estructura de tres Houses, o equipos: Cross, Lions y Spurs, que conjuntamente constituyen el escudo del Colegio.

La cruz roja de la ciudad de Durham (donde yace Bede), sobre un fondo amarillo, representa la esperanza y la fé, y es el símbolo de Cross.

El león dorado ("couchant" sobre fondo negro) representa el coraje, y es el símbolo de Lions.

La de Spurs (una espuela medieval sobre fondo rojo) simboliza el esfuerzo y el valor que se requería de los caballeros de antaño para "ganarse las espuelas"

Spurs, (a spur on a red background) stands for the effort and valour needed "to earn ones´spurs")
